uhm... Happy Memorial Day....

Does that seem like an appropriate greeting? I'm thinking... no.... how can "happy" and "memorial" appear in the same greeting line together??

Actually, I'm not quite sure what Memorial Day is about because we don't have one up here. What happens down there today? Is this one of those holidays that used to mean something, but that is now just a welcome extra day to sleep in and maybe cut the grass and perhaps have a barbecue? (or should that be "barbacoa").

Well, the sun is shining here for the second day in a row, which seems like something that I might want to celebrate... perhaps even build a "memorial" to... Yes, the memorial to "The Day the Sun Shined in Canada"....

To honour the occasion, I'm building a sleeping bench for the screened in back deck... No, not a chesterfield, or a couch, or even the highly despised "divan"....

Nay, this is just a common old "sleeping bench"... made out of scrap lumber left over from building the new porch a couple of years ago.

You understand, that this thing just isn't going to be fancy enough to be called a divan... No.. I'm thinking thick, wide foam pad and a mess of squishy pillows with denim or maybe old-fashioned type cotton duck striped mattress ticking if I can get a line on some in the next couple of days...

Want to keep it simple... just need a mosquito-proof place to crash on those hot summer nights when you feel like you're going to melt if you stay indoors for one more second.... yep... we actually get a lot of those in July and August....

So that's what it's for.... The Memorial Sleeping Bench... commemorating "The Day the Sun Shined in Canada".

BTW, the air here is filled with birdsong and the scent of lilacs....

And now I'm outta here... (-:
