Aus, thanks for porting these comments from Yahoo. The writer indicates that SNDK, because of its small size and lack of its own manufacturing facilities, cannot control prices in the same way that larger companies such as Hitachi and Toshiba can. This may be true, but it may be of relatively little interest in a field where SNDK owns the key patents and gets royalties from most companies that make flash products. As in the case of QUALCOMM, if you own the key patents, it really doesn't make too much difference who makes the products. If you have enough cash and enough managment expertise, then it's wise to expand both vertically and horizontally in order to increase the scale of operations and the size of profits. SanDisk cannot be faulted for the way it has managed to get through this maze.
