Joggins, Nova Scotia is a great spot... although a little far away for you, I'm afraid.

When I was there last summer, we brought home some nice fossils that we found on the beach... of Calamites... an ancestor of the horse tail weed... a piece of Stigmaria tree root, and a leaf from the Cordaites tree...

You can collect fossils on the beaches when the tides are out. There are large pieces of petrified trees and other fossils in the cliffs overlooking the beach which you can study, but can't collect from.

I think the area will be designated as an entirely protected site sometime soon which will mean that collection probably won't be possible. However, the shoreline all along that section of Nova Scotia in the Bay of Fundy is rich in fossils, agates, etc... and very few areas have any collecting restrictions...

BTW, I do have a wonderful pair of trilobites inside of a round rock which you can "open" to study them... they are just gorgeous... but I purchased them... they are from Morocco... (unfortunately not possible to "collect" everything in person, much as I might like to.. :-)
