A tektite? Those are glassy ejecta from impacts.

I would LOVE to have one of those tektites that have the shape of a wok heaped half full of something smooth. Prospectors would carry those as talismans since they looked like gold pans filled with good stuff.

A store around here sells small fragments of a nickel-iron meteorite. Not as expensive as gold, but not a whole lot cheaper either. But I'm gonna cave in one fine day and buy a chunk. There is something ineffably marvelous in holding onto a piece of something otherworldly, something that wasn't brought here by tourists.
