One more thing. Dr. Don Johnson at London Place Eye Center in British Columbia, Canada, who pioneered Multi-pass/Multi-zone PRK ("No-touch PRK"), and who has done 10,000 PRK's, does high myopes up to -30, with great results. In MP/MZ, the laser removes the epithelium, unlike the manual method used in U.S., and several passes and several beam spot diameters are used for greater control and precision. This results in a smoother corneal surface, faster recovery time, less chance of infection, and less regression. It makes LASIK obsolete, just like RK will be soon in U.S., and has become in every country where PRK has been available for several years.
PRK is in its infancy, and it has plenty of technique refinements left. |
