Michael, you could be right, and I could be nothing but an old fogey. But I still have a couple of questions.
For one thing, why shouldn't the auto companies line up behind the concept? It won't cost them much, will it? And it will be yet one more option they can offer their customers. And two bits that if the customers do chose the option, the car companies will make more out of it than SIRI and XMSR will.
Another question: do you really think that $10 a month per customer is going to put these companies (SIRI and XMSR) in the black? And if I understand it correctly, XMSR will be using the DirecTV facilities to broadcast, rather than putting up its own satellite as SIRI will be doing, I think it relevant to point out that not even DirecTV (or rather, GMH) is making a profit. The financial situation of DISH and PGTV is even worse.
So if the satellite TV providers, with all their customers, can't make any money, is there any reason to believe that the satellite radio providers will do any better?
And if the stock prices of the satellite TV providers are falling, why shouldn't the stock prices of the as yet untested radio satellite providers follow suit?
