QQQ's are supposed to trade at 2 1/2% of the underlying index, the Nasdaq 100. There are small variations that can sometimes be exploited. Currently the index is 3101.44 which correlates to a QQQ value of 77.536. The last trade for QQQ was 77 3/4 so it is trading at a slight premium. It sometimes trades at a slight discount and that is what I look for when buying. Shorting, you would want to look for a little premium. Another kicker is that there appears to be some after-hours trading of QQQ's on the Nasdaq. This can put the QQQ's and the underlying a little out of sync and may be an indicator of index action at the next open.
