Thanks Mark. I'd love to get sanctimonious but I'd attribute the sequence of events to nervousness as a shareholder (I bought in at 3 and sold out at 2 7/16), outright annoyance with the behavior of the CEO, and the pathetic, tunnel visioned tone of the GIFS thread.

BTW, there is one final 'thread' to this story: on May 5th, 1997, I emailed Floyd Norris (a columnist for the New York Times Business section) suggesting he investigate the GIFS story for a possible column. Later that day I received a return note from David Barbosa, a fellow corespondent at the Times, requesting my phone #. While I never spoke with Barbosa, I did provide navigational help to find SI and the various GIFS threads (including this one). The result appeared today: a front page (Business section) article (with a large, multiyear graph of the stock): nytimes.com . The article is well researched and compelling. The histrionics and hyperbole are a bit much.

R.I.P.

Peter
