there once was a homogeneous group on this thread but somebody came along and caused a lot of the "good" folks to go away. It was anything but homogeneous; it was as eclectic a group as I've ever seen on SI. The arguments could get quite vicious, but never seemed to devolve into discussions of individuals. Anyone who walked in with an idea that they weren't prepared to defend with fact and logic was likely to see their idea scalped, but the ad hominem attack was frowned upon. X was a regular and welcome presence at that time, and was certainly not the one who wrecked the party.
