Got to relate this story after my first day flying in a fighter trainer (aircombat usa). After the morning briefing, we were fitted with our greenbag suits and parachute. We were informed that in the unlikely scenario that we have to punch out, her will punch out out. We were instructed to place our left hand on the helmet/goggles and our right hand on the "D" ring and pull once you clear the aircraft. Someone inquired what should we do if the chute doesn't deploy. The instructor answered without skipping a beat... "keep pulling the "D" ring,... it'll give you something to do on the way down..."
