Tenchusatsu and Thread, World's chip market seen to rise 30.6 pct in 2000

TOKYO, May 30 (Reuters) - The global semiconductor market is expected to increase by 30.6 percent in calendar 2000 from a year earlier to $195.06 billion, Electronics Industries Association of Japan said on Tuesday.
The estimate came from reports of World Semiconductor Trade Statistics (WSTS), based on a statistics from the world's chipmakers such as Fujitsu Ltd , Intel Corp (NasdaqNM:INTC - news), Infineon Technologies AG and Winbond Electronics Corp , the association said.
The favourable prospect were based on rising demand for chips for use in cellular phones, personal computers, digital home appliances and game consoles, it said.
The global chip market rose 18.9 percent in 1999 from a year earlier to $149.38 billion, WSTS said.
The worldwide secmiconductor market is expected to rise by 20.2 percent in 2001 from a year earlier to $234.42 billion, by 13.6 percent to $266.29 billion in 2002 and by 8.5 percent to $288.98 billion in 2003, it said. |
