Qualcomm was overpriced because the hype wasn't true. There will be no 1 million Globalstar subs by year's end. cdma2000 is not emerging as a serious, global rival to W-CDMA. Latin America is not in the bag. India is not in the bag. Russia is not in the bag. China is not in the bag. IPR fees are being bargained down by Koreans.

The list goes on and on. How about Nokia and their much-maligned PR department? Could it be that Nokia was onto something when it chose the low-key approach? There has been zero hype about W-CDMA in Korea. Zero hype about Unicom going exclusively GSM. No big words about W-CDMA's eventual global market share. No provocative projections about Brazil or Australian infra deals coming in the future. Just genuinely humble approach to markets and customers.

There's something in this Nordic humility that is invaluable under current market environment. Maybe they could send some people from San Diego to Finland on a field trip; the topic might be "When to keep your trap shut".

And just maybe we could stop and think about anger. Exactly who should Qualcomm investors be angry at? Is it really the nasty Nordic and Asian people? Or could the real target for anger be closer to home?

Ruffian - W-CDMA was being designed back in 1995-1997. Do you really think that saving face was a top priority in mid-Nineties for Nokia? You are forgetting that cdma2000 is the copycat here - not W-CDMA. If you disagree - please show me public references to cdma2000 from 1997.
