Perceptronics Partners with Stan Lee Media To Deliver New Collaborative Entertainment for the Internet
WOODLAND HILLS, Calif., May 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Perceptronics, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: PCTR) today announced a strategic alliance with Stan Lee Media, Inc. (Nasdaq: SLEE), premier creator of episodic animated entertainment on the Internet, for the development of multi-user collaborative applications and products based on Perceptronics' IC3D/Wythtm Technology. Stan Lee Media is an Internet-based, multimedia production, marketing, and licensing company founded by pop-culture icon Stan Lee, co-creator of such classic characters as Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk, and The X-Men. More than two billion copies of books featuring characters Mr. Lee co-created have been published in 100 countries and 27 languages. Stan Lee Media has partnered with a range of talent and technology companies to create a new genre of Internet delivered animation, featuring 3- to 5-minute "Webisodes" that integrate voiceover, music and sound effects with cutting edge animation. The result has been to establish Stan Lee Media as the largest independent content creation, production and distribution brand on the Internet. The premier in March, 2000 of Stan Lee Media's new 7th Portal Team of Super Heroes on the Shockwave.com Web site caused such an enthusiastic response it overloaded the site's servers, and more than 1 million downloads of the first episode were registered within days. Under their strategic alliance, the companies intend to jointly develop online applications and products for use by Stan Lee Media in its business activities. Perceptronics will showcase its collaborative interaction capabilities from IC3D/Wyth for Animation with Stan Lee Media's global branded entertainment content in games, environments, e-commerce shopping and other content using Macromedia's Flash and Shockwave. The applications will be developed as projects funded by Stan Lee Media, who will have the exclusive rights to their use, as well as the right to sub-license the constituent IC3D/Wyth Technology. The parties will share in ownership of any jointly developed new products and/or tools, and each party will have the right to use and market them. "Stan Lee's minions include a fabulous bunch of highly creative and productive industry veterans and innovators," said Richard Moskowitz, Perceptronics' CEO. "We are thrilled and honored to work with Stan's great people to create new types of applications that combine the strengths of both companies to deliver entertainment to a global audience of Web users." "We have been very fortunate in our strategic alliances to date," continued Moskowitz, "but this one truly connects us with a master of entertainment, who has shown a unique ability to adapt traditional formats to the dynamic and interactive Internet environment. What a terrific showcase for our IC3D/Wyth products!" Gary Manfredi, director of technology at Stan Lee Media, said, "What I find exciting about the IC3D/Wyth Technology is that it enables a key component to creating truly interactive experiences -- multi-player functionality. People are much more interested in competing and collaborating with each other than with a computer simulation. Kids can play together in a new way and join with others from around the world. Perceptronics' products seamlessly adds this functionality to our current content technologies such as Flash, Shockwave, Java, etc." Perceptronics' IC3D/Wyth for Animation (patent-pending) allows a group of Internet users to control and view collaboratively a synchronized Flash, Shockwave or other animated presentation. Everybody in the group is able to see and hear the same material simultaneously, and everybody can have a hand on the "remote controller." The collaborative interaction is accomplished by using the IC3D Framework for shared coordination of the animated presentation among the collaborative group and control of the presentation from the parent Web site. The normal media server or servers associated with the parent Web site delivers the animation content in synchrony to the multiple user group. Adding new collaborative capabilities via Perceptronics' IC3D/Wyth technology thus need not require major changes or modifications to Web sites now offering single-user interaction from Flash, Shockwave or other animation media.
Perceptronics' business is to develop, produce and market software products and services that allow Web site developers and owners to create online collaborative experiences that meet the growing demand for expanded multi-user interactivity on the Internet.
