RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif., May 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Xecom Corp. ("Xecom") (OTC BULLETIN BOARD: XECM) announced today that it will proceed with filings to obtain Local Exchange Carrier (LEC) status in the 17 states where its wholly owned subsidiary Select Switch Systems, Inc. ("SSI") maintains switching services to military personnel under its Sprint/AAFES Contract.
The applications will be filed over a three month period with assistance of Dallas based "Telecom Regulatory Advisory Group," and are expected to be approved within a six-month time frame.
Joseph Vigliarolo, Xecom CEO, stated that "Xecom intends to capitalize on its existing switching presence at more than 40 military base locations." He said, "The Company plans to augment its existing large PABX's with central office switches designed to provide both Local Exchange (dial tone) and Internet services to an expanded population of the military and to the nearby community, household and business customers." The Company said the revenue potential will be greatly increased as the aforementioned and other enhanced services, such as voice mail, call waiting, call forwarding, etc. are extended to the civilian customers which surround these military bases.
As previously announced (Xecom News Release dated December 18, 1996), Xecom will rely on Top-Net, Inc. to provide Internet access and related services on a joint venture basis. The Company is also pleased to announce that the soldier sign ups and billeting room accounts have reached approximately 30,000.

Certain statements in this press release may include forward looking comments regarding, among other things, availability of funding, technical and business progress. The Company's actual results may vary materially from those forward looking statements due to risks and uncertainties to which the Company is subject such as delays in installations, failure to meet milestones or other obligations under collaborative agreements and other risks, which are described in the Company's Form 10.
