31/5/00 08:30 BST Vodafone's Gent sees accord over Airtel within 1 mth MADRID (AFX) - Vodafone AirTouch PLC expects an agreement over its planned acquisition of Banco Santander Central Hispano SA's stake in Airtel SA within one month, Expansion reported citing Vodafone chairman Chris Gent. As part of an initial agreement, Expansion said BSCH will swap its 30.45 pct stake in Airtel for 2.5 pct of Vodafone, raising its stake to over 50 pct. Expansion said Vodafone is also expected to reach a "friendly" agreement with British Telecommunications PLC which will include the acquisition of the UK operator's 17 pct of Airtel. Vodafone has already reached agreements with Airtel's other shareholders to acquire their stakes, thereby gaining full control of the Spanish wireless group, it said. fb/lam
