QCOM--Before the Bell - Qualcomm ticks lower

Reuters Company News - May 31, 2000 07:49
NEW YORK, May 31 (Reuters) - Shares in mobile phone technology company Qualcomm Inc. slipped in pre-opening trade on Wednesday, retracing strong gains posted the day before.

Qualcomm was at 74 on the Instinet electronic broker system, down from a Tuesday close of 76-3/8.

Qualcomm surged more than $10 on Tuesday, reversing an early drop. The fall was triggered by concern that a big Chinese phone company might not adopt Qualcomm's mobile phone technology.

A Qualcomm spokesman said on Tuesday the company believed China would deploy its technology soon, and it was encouraged by talks it was holding with cellular phone makers in China.
