Mike the most "up to date" translation and probably most popular is the NIV, New Internationl Version...but there are many others also...
But it is not the most accurate. For the most thourough study of scripture and the most accurate meaning of words in their original language, Hebrew or Greek, the best Bible is King James.It is the only Bible which allows a person to take a word all the way back to it's prime with accuracy,in a Strong's concordance, and this is of utmost importance for the serious student of the word of God.
Dr. James Strong was one of this world's finest and most thourough Hebrew and Greek manuscripts scholar, and his is the only concordance that I use for a most accurate and complete understanding of scripture... I use only a King James Bible... because it is the only Bible that will allow me to search out the orig. lang..... in a Strongs Concordance.
Other Bibles are also good for reading but for study they are, to me, useless.Many of the original words have been deleted and replaced by a more "up dated" word or lang., so as to make it more readable for the masses...And in their proper place they are fine, but again as I said before, for the more serious student, King James is by far the most accurate as to the orig. lang.
As a matter of fact many of the up dated versions leave out many necessary words and there by changed the intended thought of scriptures. the NIV for instance leaves out the word "blood" in reference to Christ's sacrifice more than a couple of time. Some have said that this omission is nothing short of heresy.
In any case to get a true picture of what God was saying through His prophets, and apostles, and Of course Jesus himself, I rely on the KJV.
There is what is known as "The Companion Bible". It is a KJV Bible with NO commentaries but a Column on the right of the scriptures which detail the scripture in it's entirety, as to:
Word orig., Figures of speech, idioms, phrases unique to the particular era or geographical location,and 197 appendices...
For me this too is a must Bible.
As to the confusion, there will be confusion as long as there are those who have "their own versions"...<g>..no kidding my friend.!...This includes the "scribes"
So to answer your question more precisely, I would say that the most understandable version is being used. It is the KJV...unfortunately not by all and probably not by most, anymore....and even to the extent that it is being used by some not all of them are using it to it's full potential....with the Strongs Concordance as a proof reader.
