The danger of looking for these "better people" as leaders is it may cause us to lose the services of some flawed human beings who are otherwise outstanding.

For example, military regulations of the time prohibited Eisenhower's affair with Kate Hornsby. Today, he might be exposed, and hounded out of command--perhaps replaced at a crucial time when our very existence hung in the balance by a morally upstanding General of lesser skill. Is that a Good Thing?

Perhaps the best thing would be to get our noses out of the sex lives of our political and military leaders and, in exchange, these leaders will leave the moralizing to the clergy? Remember the old saying: "We're electing a ------, not a Pope"?

That will take some of the sport out of these salacious inquiries, which would have sunk some of our much-needed heroes of previous generations.
