ALCATEL DELIVERS ADSL BROADBAND ACCESS TO TELIA
Paris, 31 May 2000 - Alcatel announced today it has been selected by Telia, the leading
telecommunications company in Sweden, to deliver ADSL equipment. This will enable Telia to
offer secure and low-cost broadband Internet access to its business and residential market.

ADSL gives the end user a direct connection to the Internet. Working on an existing copper
telephone line, ADSL's transmission speed is up to 200 times faster than today's analogue modems.
ADSL's speeds range up to 8 Mbit/s.

The agreement includes Alcatel's new award-winning ASAM (ATM subscriber Access Multiplexer)
as well as Alcatel's SpeedTouch TM end-user modems and will cover Telia's coming need for
several hundred thousand ADSL lines. The investment is estimated at EURO 90 million. Alcatel will
deliver the fourth generation of ADSL equipment, which is directly aimed for the mass market and
will support Telia's massive rollout of reliable and cost effective Internet access.

"The demand for broadband access in Sweden is booming and by using Alcatel ADSL equipment,
we can meet the high expectations of the market" says Ingmar Jonsson, in charge of Telia's
broadband project.

"We are very proud of the contract with Telia since they are in a leading position in the most
competitive Internet market in Europe," says Andreas Nystrom, Key Account Manager for Telia at
Alcatel.
