Nova Shipped 500 ITM Systems for CMP
REHOVOTH, Israel--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 22, 2000--Nova Measuring Instruments Ltd. (``Nova'') (Nasdaq:NVMI - news) announced to have shipped its 500th Integrated Thickness Monitoring (ITM) NovaScan system. 14 out of the 20 largest semiconductor manufacturers have selected Nova's ITM systems as their choice of integrated metrology equipment.

Let see: AMAT is one of the user that holds >60 % of CMP market. That will bring NOVA usage to >90 % of the market.

The NovaScan system was introduced to the market in 1995, being the first integrated metrology system of the industry. Nova has integrated its equipment on 15 different models of polishers and with all major CMP equipment manufacturers.

Nova's ITM systems have achieved the closest possible control over the CMP process by carrying out the measurement in the same environment as the process itself. This enables measuring every wafer, in water, right after planarization. Closed Loop Control (CLC) algorithms enable immediate feedback and adjustment of the next wafer processed. Operating in the production environment, Nova's ITM systems have measured more wafers than all other metrology systems together.

``The new challenges of the industry - 300mm wafers, copper capabilities, 0.18 micron technology - require more and tighter process control,'' said Dr. Moshe Finarov, Director of Technology at Nova. ``Nova is focused and committed to Integrated Process Control. As a first step we have translated our vast field experience in CMP into an ITM system for CVD processes. The new process control solutions now in the pipeline are to supply comprehensive integrated process control solutions for IC manufacturing on a fab-wide basis. According to industry observers, the Integrated Process control market potential is expected to grow from about $60 million in 1999 to more than $500 million in 2003.''
