SUDAN/SOUTHERN STATES DEVELOPMENT
Khartoum, May 31 (SUNA)- The Coordination Council for the Southern States will hold, in collaboration with the committee for implementing the emergency programme for the development of the southern states, a workshop on implementation of the programme, during June 5 - 8, said the State Minister for Industry and chairman of the steering committee for organizing the workshop, Ali Tamim Fartak.
He said at the press forum of SUNA Wednesday that the workshop aims at creating a climate conducive to implementation of Khartoum Peace Agreement and reactivating the role of the southern cadres for realizing rehabilitation and peace from within.
Fartak said that 300 of the political, legislative and academic leaderships at the national and southern states' levels will take part at the workshop.
He explained that around 13 working papers will be presented at the workshop, adding that these papers will review development, economic, financial, rehabilitation, manpower, training, peace, environment, health and education issues.
Meanwhile, Fartak pointed out that 840 million dinars had been assigned for implementing the emergency programme for the southern states.
He said that the federal Ministry of Finance has provided 80% of the fund for implementing the programme which aims to setting up developmental projects in the education, health, drinking water, electricity, roads, airports, peace from within and food security projects in the southern states.
He said that implementation of these projects is intended to boost implementation of Khartoum and Fashoda peace agreements and to provide a climate conducive to boosting the peaceful co-existence and reactivating contribution of the southern cadres for rehabilitation of the southern states and realizing peace from within.
Fartak added that the war had destroyed the basic infrastructures and services in the southern states.
He said that 10 million Sudanese dinars had been allocated for rehabilitating the mass media in the southern states.
