Gus,

I am interested in your take on the McData IPO. Is this motivated by a desire to unlock hidden value for the shareholder, or a way to distance EMC from a company whose better days may be behind it? With EMC emphasizing the software side and with other hardware suppliers available to pick up the slack through OEM relationships, I'm favoring the second motivation.

I realize the wheels have been in motion for a few years to separate the companies, but how will EMC benefit if they distribute all MCDT shares? If EMC thought new business would come McData's way after it was fully independent, I would think EMC would hold onto some shares as an investment. It looks to me as if they want no connection.

Is there another aspect I'm missing?

Greg
