How does Lucent's employee stock option distribution compare to Cisco's?

I don't know about non-SV people not being stock savvy....they certainly are in my area. I consider LU old tech and that probably makes a difference; however the MSFT's and AMZN's of Seattle have very active stock option programs and use those programs to solicit new employees.

Nor can you easily move Sequoia, Mayfield, Kleiner Perkins, Sand Hill road, etc.

You would be surprised how quickly they could open a branch if the need arose.

I would add, we do not yet have the appropriate technology for breaking the barriers on geographical dispersed locations.

I would question that comment too. Semi's of course are a big issue on this thread so let me point out that the fastest growing, most state of the art and most profitable semi's right now are typically not located in SV. I am talking about VTSS, TXCC, CREE, RFMD and the one with the strongest growth curve, PMCS to name a few.

Cities become the center of something through a combination of luck and having some needed key components. Other cities covet the success and try to emulate. They succeed only when the original city becomes to expensive and/or too complacent. It has happened over and over again in urban history. SV is at a critical point.....prices are out of line with the rest of the country and smugly, SV believes it can't be duplicated........bad combination.

Frankly I don't care what happens to SV but its made for an interesting exchange.
