JDN - re: insurance. Establish a sub-S corporation with you and your wife as officers or employees. It does not matter much what the company is chartered to do or if it makes much money, or any money. What matters is that you will be eligible for a small business group health policy. Sub-S losses are passed through to the owners, so in effect you get a tax deduction in addition to the more favorable group rates. There are some other benefits as well, including auto insurance and other potentially business related costs. Talk to your accountant about it... but you will probably end up with a good unrestricted family policy (i.e. any provider, not a network or HMO deal) for under $800 a month, all tax deductible. As with any amateur advice, get a good professional to advise you on how to actually do it.
