It's this August. That's when you'll see the first product from Meteor Technologies' major investment, ThoughtShare Communications.
The Chairman of Meteor Technologies, Fred Fabro of ThoughtShare Communications Inc. (TSCI), puts it this way, "Our programmers have been working hard on developing the first in our series of knowledge-handling software programs for the general public to use. Management planning is currently based on a full version 1.0 rollout of the first software program to the general public in August. TSCI has been working towards this event for about 10 months now and the programmers feel that though the timeline is tight, they should have things ready by then."
The first program TSCI will release, says Fabro, will contain half of the company's core technology, and it's designed specifically to help people like you handle the burgeoning supply of information on the Internet -- and on corporate intranets, the Internet-like networking of corporate computer systems -- in ways that make sense to you.
Fabro adds, "We'll be moving into the beta-test phase in June -- and, of course, the whole point of the beta-test process is to ensure the program is as appealing and clean as our consultants and programmers think it is _before_ the version 1.0 release." (We'll have more information for you shortly about the extensive testing that's been underway on the product since its inception.)
The program will automatically create a visual map of a web browser's surfing session. And that map can be saved and edited as a special file called a ThoughtMap. A ThoughtMap, he says, can be readily shared with anybody else or used on your own, any time you want to recreate that surfing session, or anytime you want to show others the session.
Fabro says the program has been given various nicknames and codenames during its development, and the debate is hot within the company about what the program's name should be. He says various factions have their favourites, but he doesn't expect the debate will be settled for a week or two.
Fabro cautions that TSCI management is taking everything one step at a time. "Besides the name debate, I'll give you two more examples of what I mean. Earlier I mentioned the programmers felt the August release date was tight. Internally, we were all hoping to have the working version of the software sooner than August, but the skill shortage in Canada of programmers, especially team leaders with extensive Delphi programming knowledge, was a big part of a one-month delay until we were able to find the right people for the work. As well, we'll be watching carefully how the August roll-out proceeds, and as we see how well it's going, we'll be ready to improve distribution channels on the fly, if need be, or whatever else needs to be done to ensure it's well-received."
And when will the other shoe drop? Fabro simply says, quietly, "Once we're sure that things are rolling well with the first program, then we'll be making additional announcements about further stages in the repertoire of tools based on our technology."
And, between now and August, Meteor Monitor will continue to keep you up to date.
Meanwhile, the marketing continues apace. TSCI, for instance, was at the Information Content Management Conference in Seattle, Washington State, from May 22-24. The Conference is one of the major annual assemblies of knowledge and expertise on information management.
And representatives of TSCI have circled on their calendars the dates for three trade shows in various parts of the continent in October: Internet World in New York in October 23-27, the Canadian Softworld Conference in Halifax and the E-World Exhibition in Vancouver, Canada.
