I remember I said about the same thing a year or so ago--tried to "ban" all discussion of China because the whole situation was so amorphous one couldn't depend on any "news", i.e. rumors, that it was worthless to worry about it. It is frustrating that we on the thread feel we have a better understanding of how good the news really is--China will go full-blown Qcom 1x or HDR and not bother with the current IS-95. If we can get through this tumultuous period, we will be able to say "I told ya so" in a year and will be richly rewarded. After all, we did buy Qcom when the majority view was it "can't work." It was just a little over a year ago, that it was shown that the emperor had no clothes, i.e., Ericy. The recent thread discussions of 2.5G technology, for those who look closely, show the "newly-crowned emperor," Nokia, has no clothes either. As soon as Sprint and Vod start rolling out 1x, Nokia WILL capitulate. China is looking at 12 infra bidders now; when China asks NOK what have you got that can meet 1x or HDR, NOK will have to face reality and capitulate. Dr. J. and the Qualcomm team have designed for the future; they knew the problems GSM would have; they knew what problems GPRS and Edge would have under any code division platform. The truth is that Qualcomm is the only company that really understands cdma, and the GSM crowd cannot design a competitive upgrade path and won't within the the commercial limits of time. |
