3Com Corp Sues Xircom for Allegedly Stealing Patented Devices
Salt Lake City, May 31 (Bloomberg) -- 3Com Corp., the No. 2 maker of computer-networking equipment, sued Xircom Inc. for allegedly stealing patented electrical and computer communications devices.
The lawsuit, filed May 25 in federal court in Salt Lake City, says 3Com holds patents for electrical connectors and current surge-protectors for modems.
3Com claims Xircom, which makes communications cards to connect laptop computers to networks and cell phones, has ``willfully, wantonly and deliberately'' used 3Com's patented inventions in its products.
``3Com has been and will continue to be damaged by the infringing conduct,'' according to the lawsuit, which requests damages and that a judge stop Xircom from using 3Com's patented inventions.
Officials from Xircom were not immediately available for comment.
Shares of Santa Clara, California-based 3Com fell 5/8 to 41 13/16 on the Nasdaq Stock Market. Shares of Thousand Oaks, California-based Xircom rose 5/16 to 41 1/4 on the Nasdaq Stock Market.
