Gap May same-store sales dip due to deeper markdowns
LOS ANGELES, May 31 (Reuters) - Casual clothing retailer Gap Inc. (NYSE:GPS - news) on Wednesday reported same-store sales that fell below expectations due to a slower-than-expected Easter sales season, which spurred larger inventories and deeper markdowns.

San Francisco-based Gap's same-store sales, or sales at stores open at least a year fell 2 percent compared to an 8 percent gain in the year-ago period. Wall Street had expected Gap to report same-store sales gains of between 1 and 4 percent, according to various analyst reports.
