There's always an opportunity with announcements like HP's to fiddle the numbers a little. I haven't seen anywhere precisely how the 90% was arrived at -- e.g is it based on number of machines, actual historic cost, list price at time of installation, current discounted replacement cost, etc.? Are there any offsets or payments-in-kind (e.g. purchase of advertising by HP, inclusion of free services, etc.)? Since Amazon will now sell HP machines, are inventory and goods-sold machines somehow included? What part of the % is merely desktop PC's? Are there any special financing terms?

Of course, Sun may play such games as well; the point is that these high-profile PR fodder sales aren't always what they seem.
