I always hated that word "flautist," and refused to use it, especially within the hearing of my son,who, needless to say, hated the word even more. His football-playing peers thought it was the synonym of "faggot."

He got a lot more respect from them when he abandoned the flute for the bass guitar. Nothing lah-de-dah "flauty" about a bass guitar,by gum!
