5 executed for
crimes against
children

REUTERS

Five men, including one who buried a
five-year-old boy alive, have been
executed as part of a nationwide campaign
against an upsurge in violence against
children, state media reported yesterday.

The five were put to death on Tuesday on
various counts of kidnap, rape and robbery
in separate cases involving 38 children,
the reports said. Supreme People's Court
Vice-President Shen Deyong said 16
accomplices received sentences of up to
life in jail.

The child killer, Bu Xiaogang, 23,
kidnapped Han Dong, five, in northern
Shaanxi province and buried the boy alive
in a coal mine after being discovered, Mr
Shen said. He was charged and convicted
of kidnapping, not murder. A farmer from
neighbouring Shanxi province was
executed for raping 10 girls from the same
primary school. He stole money from
several of them.

The other three were executed for
abducting 27 children from poor inland
provinces and selling them in wealthy
coastal regions. Eleven of the children are
still missing.
