Compaq Selects Emulex Host Adapter for Proliant Servers
LightPulse LP8000 Host Adapter Provides Recommended Host Connection for Windows 2000 Environments

COSTA MESA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 31, 2000--Emulex Corp. (Nasdaq: EMLX), an industry leader in fibre channel products and technology Wednesday announced that Compaq, the world's leading storage systems supplier and leading storage area network (SAN) provider, has qualified a customized and fully tested version of the Emulex LightPulse(TM) LP8000 PCI fibre channel host adapter for use in connecting Compaq StorageWorks RAID Array 8000, Enterprise Storage Array 12000, Modular Array 8000 and Enterprise Modular Array 12000 storage systems to Windows NT and Windows 2000 based servers.

The Compaq 64-Bit/33MHz PCI-to-Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapter for NT (P/N 176479-B21) is designed for enterprise mission-critical applications on Compaq ProLiant and other X86 based servers, providing industry-leading performance in both Fibre Channel Arbitrated Loop and Fibre Channel fabric based configurations.

The Emulex LP8000 Host Bus Adapter

The 64-bit PCI LP8000 provides a unique combination of features required for mission-critical enterprise applications, including full fabric support using F_Port and FL_Port connections, high data integrity, full-duplex operation, data buffering to support up to 10km cabling, and support for all fibre channel topologies and service classes 2 and 3.

The LP8000 features a GBIC or embedded physical interface, providing customers with flexibility to support a full range of cabling options, including copper, multi-mode fiber or single-mode fiber.

The LP8000 is supported by a rich suite of software, providing support for storage protocol (SCSI), network protocol (IP), as well as multi-protocol (SCSI & IP) operation, enabling advanced SAN and network applications. Emulex provides a wide range of operating system support, including Windows NT and 2000, Solaris, AIX, UnixWare and NetWare.

Compaq has extended this broad support to include the Tru64 UNIX and OpenVMS operating systems.

The LP8000 is part of a broad family of fibre channel products offered by Emulex to address the needs of both mission-critical enterprise applications and open systems computing.
