Globalstar USA Connects the Stars At the `Tecate Score Baja 500'
WALNUT CREEK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 1, 2000--

Sponsors Racing Team of Gable and Darin, Provides Satellite Phones for All Checkpoints Along Off-Road Desert Challenge

Proving they can keep anyone connected virtually anywhere, Globalstar USA is taking its satellite phones off-road providing communications to the Tecate Score Baja 500 in Ensenada, Mexico. Globalstar USA, the exclusive provider of satellite-based mobile communications services in the United States, will provide race organizer Score International with seven satellite phones, one for each checkpoint along the race route.

In addition, Globalstar USA is providing phones for the Trophy Truck division: The "ArtoftheStars.com" truck, driven by John Clark Gable and Dodd Darin (sons of Hollywood legends Clark Gable and Bobby Darin), will have Globalstar USA satellite phones and car kits installed in their race and chase vehicles.

"Globalstar USA satellite phones are the communications devices of choice for off-road events because we know they'll help keep us in touch with what's happening in the cars and on the course," said Sal Fish, chief executive officer and president of Score International. "Under these demanding conditions, over grueling terrain, they provide the most reliable way to stay in touch with race officials at checkpoints throughout the race, as well as with the drivers and their crews."

This year's Tecate Score Baja 500 will take place on June 3rd in Ensenada, Mexico. The 12-hour plus Trophy Truck division starts at approximately 7:30 a.m. More than 200 entries are expected in this year's race.

Globalstar USA Service

Globalstar service is designed to complement cellular service, not replace it. While cellular use is growing in reach every year, 45 percent of the United States is still without comprehensive wireless coverage. It is also estimated that more than 50 percent of the world's population still does not have access to basic phone service. Globalstar can fill in the gaps where cellular does not exist and allows communications access for those individuals regularly outside coverage areas or who travel to places where phone service is not readily available. Globalstar users can experience full roaming capabilities while enjoying the Baja 500 in Ensenada, Mexico. To date, customers can make satellite phone calls in 39 countries outside North America, including Europe, North America and most of South America.
