as long as the ECRI gauge keeps rising and there remains a spread between it and the funds rate, and as long as the FOMC isn't draining reserves from the system, nothing will convince me it has anything to do with the election.

don't forget, quite a few FOMC members are Clinton appointees...if they were inclined to influence the election, why would they do something that might be bad for Gore? unless the plan is for a Republican to inherit the bursting bubble...
