Intel Investors - Looks Like Intel may have a "trick" up its sleeve with the 815/PC133 SDRAM support !!!
Micron Technology claims it has become the first memory maker to ship samples of a 133-MHz SDRAM that meets Intel's "2-2-2" specification. The 2-2-2 spec refers to the number of clock cycles to perform certain functions: from read command to data-out; from active command to the read command; and from precharge command to active command. Micron (stock: MU) said a key feature in the new SDRAMs is a 34 percent improvement in the lead-off latency from the existing 3-3-3 memories.
"Although both speed options provide the same peak burst rate, PC133 2-2-2 offers a lead-off latency of only 30 nanoseconds compared with the 45-nanosecond lead-off latency available from PC133 3-3-3," said Chris Johnson, Micron SDRAM applications engineer.

BOISE, Idaho -- Micron Technology claims it has become the first memory maker to ship samples of a 133-MHz SDRAM that meets Intel's "2-2-2" specification.
Sample quantities of Micron's registered and unbuffered DIMM modules in densities ranging from 32 megabytes to 512 Mbytes are also available, the company said.
The new SDRAM is compatible with all chipsets using 133-MHz 3-3-3 SDRAM modules, said Kit Fawcett, Micron's DRAM product marketing manager. As a result, users can boost chipset performance without performing any design changes.
Micron said it is accepting orders for production volumes of 133-MHz 2-2-2 SDRAM components and modules. According to the Boise company, pricing for the 133-MHz 2-2-2 SDRAMs will be comparable to existing 133-MHz product. |
