Yes. It seems to be a peculiar feature of the American culture. Success, wealth, intelligence, etc. are always viewed as something to be suspected or disdained rather than celebrated. In fact exhibiting such characteristics seems to make one a target of those less fortunate. It is quite disturbing. JLA
