The resignations were from senior staff, as they usually are. The deal would not have gone through with Cowpland's resignation since that would not remedy the false financial information Inprise was given by Cowpland. That probably explains why Cowpland had to walk away without the cancelation fee: he would have faced another lawsuit wherein all of the false and misleading statements would have come out. The real puzzle is how this could have happened in the first place. I've asked for a single example wherein Cowpland actually made a truthful statement but I haven't received a reply. I really think Linux is tarnishing itself badly by allowing itself to be associated with a person who is widely regarded by many as the laughing stalk of the software industry.
