Good post Mindmeld. I also made a whole bunch of money being long for the past several years with systematic dollar cost averaging concentrating on those strong times of year you mention. For this election year I think we will be strongest in the Fall period thru december. Slump may come in January. Check out previous election years to see if this occurs regularly.
90% daytraders lose money and folks who are short even during declines I'm sure dont do as well as we do at best and lose their shirts at worse. Oh yeah one day we will be in a real bear market. I was a broker for a year during one that started in early 70's and lasted to Reagan. I think it was 15 years and Dow closed at the same number at the end of that time as it began. But during that period we had double digit interest rates and runaway inflation caused by a 2 wars that were never payed for(vietnam&war on poverty);2 presidents booted out(Nixon&LBJ);watergate;Iran hostages;etc. None of that exists now so the bear continues to hibernate.
