Just because you haven't been taught about something, doesn't mean you won't have lots of ideas when you see it- they won't be the same ideas an "educated" person would have- but I'm not sure education affects the number of ideas, I think exposure and intelligence affects that. I'm not sure how you normalize for the fact that education selects for more "intelligent" people. So if two people viewed a painting of equal intelligence viewed a painting- one educated about the painter and his genre and one not- I think they would both have ideas about the painting, they just wouldn't have the same ideas. I ran into this in organic chemistry. Our professor told all of us to come up with a theory about the chair formation of benzene. We came up with several theories in our study group. Some study groups had one person who knew the answer- so they only came up with one theory- the "right" answer. So WE, who didn't know the answer, came up with more ideas in our ignorance than people who "knew" the "right" answer. Of course our ideas weren't "correct" but that doesn't matter much to the ideas.
