corporate data takes a walk out the door...

"Palm and Business For all the millions of Palms that have been sold, the little suckers have been the bane of IT departments. Handy as they are, Palms have required workstation-level software that's not in control of the MIS gods. What's worse, they raise the distinct possibility that corporate data can walk out the door, unsecured, every night. No, for IT departments, this really would not do at all.
Things may be getting better. Palm announced this week HotSync Server, which will connect to Microsoft Exchange and give much greater centralized control of what had been maverick corporate technology.
IT managers may now resume breathing."

"These Ain't No Mixmasters There's news this week about Internet Appliances. No products, of course. Just news. But that's OK, because we're in the news business, not the product business.
3Com announced that it's licensed Palm technology for its upcoming line of Internet Appliances. Leaving aside that 3Com still owns the vast majority of Palm and that this therefore isn't much of a surprise, the news nonetheless is a big hint about what will be in the 3Com devices: touch screens, handwriting recognition, and centralized data synchronization. Add into the mix Palm's acquisition of the online calendar ASP Anyday.com, and you have the beginnings of a pretty interesting toy."
