Tony, "Paul, you mean Microsoft moving northward to Canada?"

I hate to admit it (being a patriotic US citizen), but I think it's a wonderful idea (assuming they could get around the Canadian tax penalty).

In conjunction with Intel, Microsoft has established the standard that has allowed the the PC to arrive on almost every desk and eventually in every home. They have vastly lowered the cost of technology. Some would say that the entire productivity gains we are seeing, and the low inflation, are the result of the proliferation of the PC (and the Internet, as a direct result of the PC). Microsoft (and Intel) are doing most of their business overseas, with the obvious effect on the trade balance. The whole industry has created an incredable amount of high paying jobs, the benefits to the US economy go on and on.

So what does the government do? They are trying to kill the goose that is laying the golden eggs.

Microsoft should at least make it appear that they are considering the move to Canada. It might wake the government up to the fact that the innovative technology companies have been far more significant than the government in the great positive changes in this country over the last fifteen years.

Sorry, didn't mean to get on a soapbox. Sometimes you just get more POed as you write a note.

John
