The $500 machine is here. Find a used 386 with about a 200 mb drive, and put a generic 14.4 modem into it. The cable connection is exciting because of the bandwidth that would be available from a pipe that's already in your house. No need to call Ma Bell for that second phone line when the wife & kids let you know that it's THEIR telephone too. With that bandwidth, youll want good resolution, a high speed machine, and audio -- (as a minimum). The $500 machine is just hype! A near-diskless eunich of a machine is little more than "interactive TV" which has gotten a big ho-hum in some trials.
