off topic - Discovery tv channel "The Science of Guns"

Tonight, 9:30 pm est Boston area tv guide

Might only be a re-hash of prior programming
and not the latest used technology.

Also, I still wonder how those long rifles made
hundred(s) of years ago by blacksmiths or
others in the farriery trade were constructed
as i'm sure they had not the drilling ability
to bore out a long hole.

Might a metal rod of caliber desired be made
and while cold be set into a pool of liquid metal
and after cooling if the rod did not bind then it
could be pulled out leaving a gun barrel ?
