I've seen the G.I. Generation AARP make some major political blunders...attributable to lack of numbers and a policy perspective that was too "friendly" towards the interests of "government" than to their own interests as a group. I don't beleive that will happen with us. We are better educated and simply not as "trusting" as those elderly who came before us. Issues of race and class that may have balkanized us in the past may be superceeded by the galvanizing issue of age...we shall see. On a related note: I doubt that "CPI flim-flam job" would have been successful had a baby boomer occupied AARP executive board been in control. Every proposed piece of legislation I've had a hand in writing that contained a payment component of one kind or another was indexed to inflation at my insistance...this kind of detail was often overlooked by the other authors...considered an unnecessary "after-thought" by some. Surprisingly most of these were older, professional people. (I could excuse the youngsters "who just hadn't been around the block" quite as yet.) I can't explain this kind of oversight myself since it seemed an obvious necessity to me. Perhaps it has something to do with growing-up in the 70's?
