Donnie: OTOT Re Trading I have a question here, since I only recently began serious trading day trading in stocks. (I usually use calls) Here is vrts: Bgt 100 at 100 on 5-23. Sold at 109 on 5-25 Bgt 100 at 105 on 5-25 Sold at 111 on 5-30 Bgt 100 at 116 on 5-31 Sold at 123 on 6-1 Bgt 100 at 135 on 6-2 (holding at present price of 135) OK, so by trading I have a 23 point gain, but by holding would have had a 35 point gain. At this point I can put a limit stop at 134 and lock in a gain of 22 points. Now we did not know the market was going up- it coulda gone the other way. And with trading, there is only 100 shares at risk, but in investing I would normally buy 100, then 100,then 100, then 100 and would have 400 shares at risk as it goes up. Thats what I am trying to avoid by trading- having too much at risk and using margin. However, if I put a limit stop under the 400 that would reduce the risk there too. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm? Question 1. Have you found it best overall to set a specific sale price( gain) before buying and stick to it? ( I note you did that on Dell but got better than you aimed for) Vrts has significant volatiliy, can change by 10 points in day, so I take whatever gain seems reasonable. Question 2. If the expected rise does not happen or it goes down, do you generally sell, hang on to the stock for better days, or put a limit stop on it.? Qwestion 3. Is this fun, or whut? And yes, I know you would be buying 1000 shrs, but I am doing this with several others. Any other traders care to comment- Greg maybe ? Sig ( who is getting jammed up with paperwork) |
