What do I think of Smith Barney's $1.99/shr earnings estimate for MU in 2000? In Q1, we had $.60/share due to a Taiwan earthquake shortage. In Q2, we got back to "normal" with $.29/share. Based on the average selling price of 64Meg PC100 SDRAM in Q3 (MU's major product in the quarter), I estimate $.20 for the most recent quarter. That equals $1.09. To get $1.99 for the here, MU has to make $.90/share in Q4. That will require an ASP of something like $9. What do I think of that $1.99 estimate. Whoever put it out is dreaming. (Speaking of double-talk, what's the difference between "buy" and "accumulate" in Smith Barney's comment? How do I place an accumulate order but not a buy order?) As I said in my original post, I'm guesstimating $1.35/share in 2000.
Best
