Thank you, CobaltBlue, but I'm afraid that would not work in this case. You see, this is a circular bed covered in
pine straw, wrapped around the pecan tree. I'm afraid that rocks would look out of place here! I can, however, use this idea in a backyard, less formal area.

How about just using rocks for protection until you lantana are established.
