Company's Avidia System Selected for Deployment in Service Provider's

Broadband Data Network Throughout Europe

PairGain Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: PAIR - news), Monday announced that it has reached an agreement with PanDacom GmbH, a PairGain distributor, for the sale and deployment of PairGain's Avidia© System multi-service access platform within riodata's broadband data network throughout Europe.

The deal is valued at up to $100 million, spans a five-year period and calls for PairGain to supply its Avidia access concentrators and Megabit Modem© customer premise devices to riodata.

riodata is an emerging provider of High-Speed Internet Services to business companies in Europe. The company is utilizing broadband data and application services in Germany and plans to launch its service first in the German market during the second quarter of this year.

``We chose PairGain because its DSL solutions will give us the most configuration flexibility and highest performance available. This flexibility perfectly suits our ambitious strategy to fully leverage our DSL access network by offering a full portfolio of IP data services, such as high-speed Internet access, Web hosting, data application hosting and virtual private networking,'' said Alex Stadler, chief executive officer of riodata.

PairGain's Avidia System is a best-of-breed access platform architected to support the requirements of incumbent and emerging service providers building next-generation broadband networks. The Avidia System has been designed to allow for the deployment of multiple services, including ADSL, SDSL, g.lite, HDSL, HDSL2 and T1/E1, from a single platform. Its unique ATM switching fabric allows for traffic management and QoS (Quality of Service) provisioning in order for service providers to deliver guaranteed levels of service to their subscribers.

PairGain's Megabit Modems are high-performance, low cost customer premise devices. riodata will deploy the company's Megabit Modem 300S, a single-pair SDSL device and the Megabit Modem 700F, a full-rate DMT ADSL device at the customer end of the connection within its broadband network.

``The momentum continues for our leading edge solution and we are thrilled that riodata selected our Avidia System for the delivery of their High-Speed Internet Services. We believe that the many differentiating features of Avidia will serve to further our position in the marketplace and as the broadband access sector grows we have no doubt that PairGain will capture significant marketshare,'' said Steve Robinson, vice president of PairGain's Avidia business unit.
