It would be wonderful if this became a full fledged trend:

Jerry Brown hasn't changed much from the days when he was California's global governor. His hair is grayer, but his intellectual reach remains decidedly catholic. What has changed is his focus. It's now local, bent on making a difference in people's daily lives. Downtown redevelopment is attracting new residents and hotels, but Oakland's schools still suffer from poor test scores and gang-related problems.

We need the best and brightest focused on problems closer to home. Talk about obsessions. This country is obsessed with national "solutions" to to everthing from the weightiest life and death issues down to every petty annoyance in life. This obsession is counter productive, wasteful (by nature) and contrary to the intent of the designers of our marvelous system of government.

Washington need a good substantial downsizing.
