New etech.Edge Solution for Electronics Distribution and Manufacturing Companies Will Deliver First Packaged E-Business Solution Spanning the Entire Supply Chain
J.D. Edwards Selects Deloitte & Touche, Sun Microsystems and Compaq Computer Corporation to Optimize Time to Market for High-Tech/Electronics Companies
DENVER, June 5 /PRNewswire/ -- J.D. Edwards & Company (Nasdaq: JDEC), a leading provider of agile, collaborative solutions for the Internet economy, announced today that the Company will offer a pre-configured, fixed scope, e-business solution for high-tech/electronics companies based on industry best practices. The Company has selected Deloitte & Touche, Sun Microsystems and Compaq Computer Corporation to deliver the new solution, named etech.Edge.
etech.Edge is a pre-configured e-business solution for high technology companies designed to reduce the time and cost of implementation. The solution is rapidly deployed to enable electronics manufacturing and distribution companies to speed time to market. The solution also empowers customers to adapt their extended supply chain solution quickly to keep pace with the fast-changing requirements of their customers.
Companies who purchase etech.Edge choose from any of J.D. Edwards' integrated ActivEra(TM) Solutions to create a complete supply chain solution. Prior to client-site delivery, Deloitte & Touche will pre-load the solution on either a Sun Microsystems Enterprise(TM) server running the Solaris(TM) Operating Environment or the Compaq ProLiant platform that supports the Microsoft Windows NT Server environment. The software is configured using industry best practices based on Deloitte & Touche's High Tech SolutionPrint process models and includes key performance indicators for the high tech industry, including book to bill ratio and product obsolescence. The entire project is completed on a fixed scope basis, reducing the risks of scope creep and over-budget implementations.
Deloitte & Touche
The etech.Edge solution uses Deloitte & Touche's SolutionPrint toolset, customized to include best business practices for the high tech industry. SolutionPrint visually illustrates business process flow in context of the integrated solution from J.D. Edwards' OneWorld(TM), giving the customer a realistic picture of how the system will work in their environment. This high tech pre-configured map also provides sample master data and account structures, saving valuable implementation time. The solution is shipped on pre-loaded hardware, allowing the implementation pilot to begin immediately. This approach speeds time to value and reduces service fees for the customer.
"Implementation times depend on the size and scope of the project. In general, we anticipate that etech.Edge may reduce the duration of a standard implementation by nearly 25 percent -- an edge that could give our customers first-mover advantage," said Jeff Plewa, global Deloitte & Touche J.D. Edwards practice leader. "We've keyed in on the critical business processes for the high-tech/electronics industry with a goal to get our customers up and running quickly and at less cost than a traditional implementation."
etech.Edge is a joint initiative between J.D. Edwards and Deloitte & Touche and is available by contacting J.D. Edwards or Deloitte & Touche.
Customer Success - Nomadix, Inc.
Nomadix, Inc., a developer of innovative Internet infrastructure equipment for use by broadband Internet Service Providers (ISPs), selected J.D. Edwards, Deloitte & Touche and a Compaq ProLiant solution to carry its operations forward while experiencing rapid growth. The Westlake Village, CA-based company, led by Internet pioneer Dr. Leonard Kleinrock, develops next-generation technology that enables ubiquitous Internet access to users with DSL, Cable or Wireless broadband connections. The pre-IPO high-tech company has witnessed considerable expansion since its founding in 1998.
"Nomadix needed to get up and running quickly on an agile and scaleable solution that could keep pace with the rapid change in our industry," said Eric Larson, chief financial officer of Nomadix. "The OneWorld implementation at Nomadix was completed in under seven weeks on the Compaq ProLiant platform. J.D. Edwards, along with Deloitte & Touche and Compaq, delivered a solution that meets our needs now and into the future."
"Speed of change is the most prevalent factor in high-tech/electronic companies today," said Jeanne Cummins, director of high-tech/electronic industry solutions at J.D. Edwards. "That makes this flexible e-business solution a key advantage for high tech companies because they need to react quickly to changing market conditions and continuously innovate processes to maintain their competitive advantage. With over 200 key business processes specific to this industry inherent in the etech.Edge offering, we feel this solution will position our customers for success in the New Economy."
Sun Microsystems
J.D. Edwards has selected Sun Microsystems in part, because of their status as an industry leader in network computing and e-commerce technologies. Additionally, OneWorld has achieved its highest scalability rating to date on a Sun Enterprise(TM) server.
"As a leading provider of secure, reliable and powerful solutions, Sun is driving the most demanding business environments to success in the New Economy," said Jeffrey Greenwald, director of ERP and supply chain, market development, Sun Microsystems. "Sun is committed to being the platform of choice for programs such as etech.Edge to help deliver 24x7x52 system availability."
Compaq Computer Corporation
Compaq defines and leads industry-standard computing with the ProLiant product line, consistently delivering the highest levels of TPC-C performance and scalability benchmarks while simplifying and lowering the costs of computing. As a result, more J.D. Edwards OneWorld customers select Compaq for their business-critical deployments than any other industry-standard platform.
"Compaq is pleased to work with J.D. Edwards and Deloitte and Touche to provide a robust technical infrastructure for etech.Edge that easily meets the scalability, reliability and manageability demands of business-critical environments," said John O'Keefe, vice president global value chain solutions, Compaq Computer Corporation. "Even the largest customers can feel confident that no matter how quickly they grow, they will benefit from the scalability and cost of ownership advantages of the Compaq ProLiant platform."
